We are so proud to announce the launch of the inaugural Strike Out Hunger campaign website for Food Bank for the Heartland. The campaign was started 8 years ago to assist with the drop in food and monetary donations over the summer, while increasing awareness to the issue of hunger. This is the first year they will have a web presence.
Working in collaboration with the team at Swanson Russell and Food Bank for the Heartland, Wheelhouse was called in to design a website that would build on the integrated campaign that was developed for Strike Out Hunger. The goals of the site were established to be a resource and a hub for donors, to increase SOH awareness and participation and most of all, to increase donations throughout the six-week food and donation drive.
With a tight budget and timeframe, we expanded on the print concepts to create a fully responsive site that is cohesive to the campaign, while presenting the user with an engaging and interactive experience. Oh, and emphasizing those ever important donations. We chose a modular grid layout that provides multiple ways for users to access information – including a scoreboard that tracks donations and creates a friendly sense of competition between corporate sponsors and participating Baker’s locations. This format also allowed us to design most text elements on the site in such a way that they can be easily edited and maintained by Food Bank for the Heartland.
In addition, to address the yearlong strategy, we updated the final content and imagery on the homepage to reflect the winning results from the campaign. This now serves to celebrate the winners, offer ways to donate year-round, and counts down the days until the next summer campaign begins.
We can’t say enough wonderful things about our collaborators on this project. It was a blast working with Brian Barks and Stephani Romero from Food Bank for the Heartland and Dave Markes, Jeff Jahn and John Vogel from Swanson Russell. Scott Blaine did a brilliant job as usual, bringing the site to life. From the start up meeting, to training and the launch, everyone brought such great ideas, inspiration and drive for success, we knew this was going to be a special project. We’re looking forward to seeing the scoreboard numbers explode and far surpass last years’ totals.
